McGuire Statement on the Anniversary of 9/11 Terrorist Attacks
Des Moines, IA – Gubernatorial candidate, Dr. Andy McGuire issued the following statement on the 16th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks:
“Today we honor the thousands of men, women and children who left their homes on an otherwise ordinary day never to return again. We also honor the brave men and women in our police forces, fire departments and emergency management who risked their lives then and do so today to keep our communities safe. Their rapid response saved lives on America’s darkest day and continues to save lives today.
“Today is also an opportunity to thank and honor the men and women of our military who fight to protect us from future attacks and to remember those who gave their lives fighting the wars that followed.
“It is important to remember how our country came together in response to the tragedy and how we must continue to come together in adversity as we face new and increasing challenges. We put aside our differences and united as a nation then and will continue to show the world that today we are united and continue to stand strong and proud.”
McGuire was born in Waterloo, Iowa – the daughter of a World War II veteran and a hard-working mother in a family of eight. McGuire is the mother of seven children, and raised a family while training to be a doctor. As a medical director, she focused on preventive care, including vaccinations and prenatal checks.
