Pulse Shooting Survivor and Mother of Pulse Shooting Victim Endorse McGuire For Governor
Brandon Wolf and Christine Leinonen: “Dr. McGuire’s record on LGBTQ+ issues speaks volumes and stands out among the field of candidates, and her commitment to common sense gun reform is the kind of leadership Iowans need and deserve.”
Des Moines, IA – Andy McGuire, candidate for Governor of Iowa, announced today that Pulse shooting survivor, Brandon Wolf, and mother of Pulse shooting victim, Christine Leinonen have endorsed her candidacy for Governor. This morning Wolf and Leinonen released the following joint statement:
“We are proud and honored to enthusiastically lend our support to Dr. Andy McGuire for Governor.
“Dr. McGuire is a longtime ally of the LGBTQ+ community, and she was one of the first candidates to publicly call for a ban on the draconian practice of conversion therapy in Iowa. Unlike Iowa’s current governor, we know Dr. McGuire will stand up for all Iowans, including our children, and push for more anti-bullying programs and safer schools.
“As a doctor, McGuire knows that gun violence is a public health epidemic and recognizes that guns are now the third leading cause of death among children in this country. McGuire has repeatedly called for action in curbing gun violence and will be an advocate for legislation that makes Iowa a safer place to live and work.
“As we prepare for nationwide marches against gun violence this weekend, let’s remember that elections matter, and we need to elect strong candidates who will stand up to the gun lobby and say ‘no’ to the NRA and similar organizations. Iowans deserve a governor who will take our country’s gun violence epidemic seriously. We are confident that Dr. McGuire will keep this issue at the forefront of the debate and work to prevent future tragedies and senseless acts of violence. ”
